How to clean carpets?

La Providence is a service company specializing in cleanliness. Our cleaning services range from restoring event spaces to cleaning windows, offices, common areas, and all types of surfaces and flooring, including carpets.

Carpets in the workplace can be a magnet for dust and allergens, such as dust mites, which can cause allergies, sneezing, or irritation, negatively impacting employee health and productivity. In order to best meet our clients’ needs, our employees use professional cleaning techniques. Here, we will discuss different carpet cleaning methods based on the type of carpet, and which approach is best for removing stains, whether at work or at home.

Different Types of Carpets

Wool Carpets

Wool carpets offer many advantages: they are easy to maintain with a vacuum for regular cleaning, naturally resistant to wear and tear, and provide excellent thermal and sound insulation, creating a more comfortable work environment.

Plant Fiber Carpets

  • Coconut fiber: These carpets are made from coconut fibers. They are dry to the touch and brown with beige tones.
  • Seagrass: This plant, which grows in marshy areas, is used to make soft-to-the-touch carpets.
  • Sisal: Sisal carpets are made entirely from leaves. However, they are sensitive to liquids and can easily show stains.

Synthetic Carpets

Synthetic carpets, generally made from polyamide or polypropylene, are less expensive but tend to be less resistant to light and fade more quickly than natural fiber carpets.

Different Carpet Structures

Everyday Carpet Cleaning

How to Dust Your Carpet

Regularly vacuuming may suffice for basic maintenance. However, frequent vacuuming does not provide long-term upkeep. For a deeper clean, we recommend using a vacuum with an electric brush, which lifts the dust to the surface, making it easier to vacuum up. This reduces the need for multiple passes and extends your carpet's lifespan.

How to Clean Carpet Stains

For a fresh stain, immediately place an absorbent paper towel over the spot without rubbing.

  • For non-greasy stains: Mix hot water, neutral detergent, and white vinegar. Use a sponge to dab the stain from the outside in.
  • For greasy stains: Use terre de Sommières, a fine clay powder with strong absorbent properties, ideal for grease, sauce, or makeup stains. Sprinkle it over the stain, let it sit for 1 to 2 hours, then brush and vacuum the area.

Professional Carpet Cleaning

Injection-Extraction Cleaning

This method uses a specialized carpet cleaning machine that sprays a water and detergent solution onto the carpet and then immediately vacuums it up.

Wet Shampooing

In this technique, a foaming carpet shampoo is applied with a low-speed floor scrubber fitted with a carpet shampoo brush. Unlike the previous method, there is no vacuum system, but the scrubbing action provides different cleaning effectiveness.

Dry Foam Cleaning

Similar to wet shampooing, but without the drying time. The machine uses a foam compressor that allows cleaning with dry foam instead of liquid.

Steam Cleaning

As described in our previous article on steam cleaning, steam cleaning involves sending a jet of hot steam onto the area being cleaned. One of the main advantages of steam cleaning is its deep hygienic action, leaving carpets impeccably clean.
