What is World Clean Up Day?
Also known as the "World Cleanup Day," it is a global event aimed at fighting pollution through voluntary cleanup efforts by the public. This initiative was launched by the Let’s Do It! Foundation and takes place every year on the third Saturday of September.
Let’s Do It! World
Founded in Estonia in 2008, the Let’s Do It! World association is an accredited member of the United Nations Environment Programme. During the first mobilization for World Clean Up Day, around 50,000 people participated. By 2016, the organization was active in 113 countries, with 45 national branches and 68 regional ones.
Goal
The goal of this global event is to encourage people to contribute to the protection of the planet by taking part in a collective and practical activity: cleaning up natural spaces. As highlighted in discussions about waste sorting, proper waste management allows for energy recovery and reduces pollution caused by the breakdown of harmful materials in nature.
In France
The first French edition was launched by the World CleanUp Day - France association in March 2017, mobilizing 200,000 people across 3,000 events nationwide. In 2019, 265,000 people participated in France, collecting 840 tons of waste.
La Providence and Cleanup Efforts
Since 1961, La Providence has supported its clients in maintaining their sites and contributing to the well-being of their employees. Given the importance of World Clean Up Day as a social and environmental event, employees from one of La Providence’s four provincial agencies, located in Lille, teamed up with their neighbor, CVP, to collect waste in their commercial area. The event strengthened ties between the two teams and was celebrated across La Providence as a great initiative!
